Job Title GRADUATE RESEARCH POSITION (junior researcher or PhD) in Multimodal Interaction and Tangible User Interfaces
Job Description The successful candidate will work in a locally funded multidisciplinary project that will involve partners with different expertise. The project aims to develop and assess an advanced storytelling system based on Tangible User Interfaces (TUI). The focus of the research will be to design and develop multimodal interaction technologies for creation of educational tools. Initial studies will involve the use of Infra-Red (IR) motion capture technology to track actions and investigate the use of tangible interfaces with children in an educational environment. Key areas include the design and evaluation of different types of multimodal interfaces and TUI. The successful candidate will be working with an interdisciplinary team with software developers, interaction designers and educators. The team will develop a prototype system that will be evaluated on the field.

Technical Skills Applicants should have a Masters degree (or equivalent) in computing or other related discipline (Computer Science, Electronic, Telecommunications or Computational Engineering); good programming skills (Java, C++), and an interest in HCI and multimodal interaction and/or tangible interfaces. Experience in realizing software systems (in particular natural and multimodal interfaces) is desirable.
Organization Skills The research themes carried on during the project are interdisciplinary. Experience or interest in any of the following areas would be advantageous: motion capture technology; computer vision; physical computing; interaction design; games programming; and related.
Languages Knowledge of English is mandatory, Italian could be an advantage.
