Job Title SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER - PUBLICATIONS
Job Description

As Sr. Project Manager – Publications, you would be responsible for a variety of project tasks that focus on the planning and production of publications (including e-books, journals, proceedings and magazines) utilizing the latest web 2.0 technologies in their production to promote innovation, drastically shorten time to publication while ensuring quality content.

Participating in all steps of the publication process, primary duties include:

• Project managing while ensuring the delivery of publications to defined timelines and budgets.
• Identifying opportunities for new business development with supporting action plans to make happen.
• Improving publication visibility by contributing to strategic marketing plans, goals and deliverables plus competitor knowledge and awareness.
• Observe, report and act on editorial trends and competitor intelligence while making suggestions to improve publication quality procedures and scientific and/or business-to-business content.
• Contribute to planning special issues and topical review initiatives in keeping with ICT Innovation Cycle.
• Working collaboratively with publication volunteer Editors and Editorial Boards through proactive engagement.
• Editorial development, including coverage of core subject areas and emerging topics. Identifying, target and acquiring key author contributions.
• Manage the content review process, including selection, decision making, procedural efficiencies and methodologies to ensure high standard of quality and at minimum cost.
• Maintain excellent working relationships with Editors, Board members and staff.
• Assuring fast turnaround times at all stages while adhering to editorial deadlines and target objectives.
• Achieving transparent author recognition through measured scientific indexing opportunities.

Technical Skills • Bachelors Degree in Publishing, Communications or related degree; advance degree much preferred.
• Extensive editorial experience in scientific journals, proceedings, books and magazines; preferably in web 2.0 environment.
• Excellent scientific copy-editing and proofing skills; including verbal and written communications skills.
• Business development (BD) and budgetary expertise.
• Well versed in emerging Web 2.0 publication and related opportunities.
• Ability to work on multiple projects and deliver to tight deadlines.
• Ability to ensure all important publications are written and produced to the highest possible standards.
• Develop a best practice strategy that will set editorial policy and standards.
• Operate closely with other internal BD teams to agree, develop and bring to market innovative concepts (including supporting content) for current and new publications.
• Liaise closely with online specialists to insure quality content for all new and existing media publications.
• Ability to assess complex situations.
• Familiar with regional business practices and cultural sensitivities related to international activities.
• Ability to listen and communicate effectively in a very responsive, clear, comprehensive and tactful manner; verbal and written.
• Demonstrated experience working with business stake holders understanding audience needs that translate into effective publication product lines.
• Advanced knowledge/use of publishing technology applications.
• Knowledge of scientific communities within a professional society work environments is preferred.
Organization Skills • Highly responsive, creative problem solver with strong entrepreneurial, diplomatic and project management skills.
• Excellent time and project management skills, dedication to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment.
• Strong interpersonal skills with a flexible attitude and ability to work in a volunteer driven environment.
• Ability to plan, execute/improve work processes to ensure objectives and deliverables are met.
• Committed to working both independently and as a team player.
• Demonstrated success in leading and providing direction to teams while developing successful working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated experience managing publication projects and initiatives; preferably international in scope.
• Willing to work extended hours/weekends including domestic and/or international travel as warranted.
Languages English proficiency is required; 2nd languages are preferred.
