TRENTINO

Trentino in Winter
Trentino is a Province situated in the heart of the Alps in Northern-East Italy. It links, from north to south, the provinces of Bolzano, and Verona along the Adige River. The Adige's Valley has been a transit route to the Mediterranean for many years. It is the perfect road-cross that connects northern European territories and southern European destinations. Because of its geographical position and its rich history, Trentino is a tourist paradise that holds a variety of historical spots (castles, churches, museums), archaeological sites and havens of diverse valleys and lakes. While cruising around the marvelous roads you can enjoy the scenic natural beauty with vineyards and many other fields of fine agriculture.

Trento is the capital and the political center of the Autonomous Province of Trento. There are approximately 106.000 people living in Trento today enjoying its great Roman architecture with its thick streets, alleys and small squares. You will never get bored moving along those streets with amazing church facades influenced by Renaissance and a blend of other styles such as Baroque and Gothic. The city is often animated by several events such as the International FilmFestival of Mountains, and other expositions, shows and traditional fairs that take place in its important places and squares.

Trentino: a strategic point

Trentino on the map
Like some other tourist regions in the world, Trentino is the right bay for research and development. It hosts a large number of labs from environmental studies to high-tech technologies. Yet, the Province of Trento allocates several resources such as infrastructure, real estate and funds to encourage research and innovation. Many institutes, both public and private, local, national and international have established their research units in Trento and Rovereto in order to transfer the knowledge from the research arena to industries. In addition to CREATE-NET, there are some other active research units. In the public sector we can list some like Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR), Istituto Agrario San Michelle, Istituto Trentino di Cultura (ITC), Museo Tridentino Scienze Naturali and Csntro di Ecologia Alpina. Other centers of research are established by national and international companies such as FIAT Centro di Ricerca di Trento.

In terms of research and development efforts, the Province of Trento has attained a great level of exposure by collaborating with other territories in Italy and foreign countries. The Province has taken many initiatives to promote innovation, especially for PME, and also improve the human capital skills trough extensive training and higher education. In fact, the University of Trento (Universit egli Studi di Trento) is rated one of the best universities in Italy offering a variety of courses in sociology, engineering and applied science. The University leads and participates in many research projects in telecommunication and computer science brining collaborators and graduate students from all over the world.
